Installing a Reverse Osmosis (R.O.) System

After completing several hours of research I chose to approach Osmotics for a recomendation before purchasing a R.O. unit. The main reason for this was that they sponsor the Reef UK site and I have read some excellent service re these guys. A prompt response was received from my e-mail confirming that I was looking for a 50 Gallon Four Stage Unit ( with the DI unit). A chose the Ultra Pure, as it had a slightly larger DI stage.

There are a few considerations you may wish to consider when deciding how to install one of this units

Connecting to mains water supply

The standard connector suplied with the unit requires a hole to be pierced into the main water pipe - I don't see an issue with this but it could be a little "messy" to remove at a later date. I decided to purchase the wahing-machine / dishwasher adaptor pictured below, as space below my sink is very restricted and if problems were experienced with the standard connector it would be very difficult to get at

The wahing-machine / dishwasher adaptor is very easy to fit and removal if required would be a very simple operation.

A tap style connector must be used in conjunction with the wahing-machine / dishwasher adaptor to connect the R.O. hose (it uses the standard push-fit R.O. hose connector)

Isolating the R.O. Unit

I believe It is benificial to leave the unit primed and for this Purpose I have fitted ball valves on the main water intake, the waste outlet and the R.O. water outle

I also decided to add a TDS meter to monitor the water produced - and it could be interesting to monitor the i/c mains supply

Installation of my R.O. Unit ( grap your umbrella)

ro 1

Well finally made a start on the installation of my RO unit - space is a little confined under my sink unit, but it fitted quiet easily into the space available.

The picture on the left shows the Omotics 4 stage 50 Gallon Ultra Pure Unit in situ under my sink unit, prior to installation

The first job was to install the watse clamp, no problem with this, however drilling the hole required was a litle tricky in the confined space - however it makes quiet a tidy connection to the waste.

Next came the connection to the mains - howevert this was the start of my problems !!! The Y connector sprang a leak on the connection to my dishwasher, resulting in water everwhere !! In trying to get this leak fixed the other connector to the RO unit also started to leak - gallons of water later I had to give up with the connection. Couldn't see any problem with the connector - washer looked ok but I just couldn't get it to seal - Oh well it's a mail to the guys at Omotics for a replacement -
